Here’s the moment your frustration comes out…It’s Thursday at 4:30 pm, you frantically write the last email to your client. You have to rush out to pick up the kids. Your body is buzzing, in a yuck, tight, overwhelming way. There’s so much pressure to get out the door and to school. You remembered today to take a deep breath while driving on 5th street, but it only sort of helps. You still feel exhausted. You do your best to smile and greet your children with happiness so they know you love them, which of course you do, and you also are lost in thought about dinner and the whole evening chaos you are expecting.
At home, while you are cooking spaghetti and green beans the meltdowns happen. The toddler is screaming because she wants the blue car the baby is holding. She grabs it from the baby’s hands causing the baby to fall over, which makes her start crying. Your body is on fire with anger now. You are pissed off that your toddler is a terror and hurting the baby. You yell at the toddler to give back the toy, while running over to pick up the crying baby. You hate you yelled at your toddler and try to apologize, yet it’s all just too much and you find yourself crying, too. All three of you are sitting on the dirty kitchen floor, tears flowing, screaming loud enough for the neighbors to hear. These moments are STRESSFUL! Imagine if the scenario above went something like this: You hear your alarm go off at 4:15 pm to pick up your kids. You know you have 10 minutes to finish up your last work email before you need to leave. You quickly write your email to your client. You have time to go to the bathroom and grab a quick drink of water. You get in your car feeling calm and wondering what your kids have been doing at school. When you arrive your heart is light and filled with love for your kids. You see the smiling face of your toddler and the bright eyes of your baby. You are grateful YOU are their mom. Big hugs and kisses are given. Getting into the car is fairly smooth.
At home you tell your kids you will make spaghetti and green beans for dinner and set them each up with toys. Your toddler grabs the blue car the baby is playing with and the baby falls over. You quickly, though calmly, walk over to pick up the baby. You get down on your toddlers level and say “I see you really wanted to play with the car. It is not okay to grab it from the baby. Your 1-1 Mama Empowerment Sessions are led by Heidi, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with an M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, a Post Graduate Certificate in Depth Psychotherapy, a Masters in Divinity from Chicago Theological Seminary, and a B.A. in Sociology Human Services. You will receive expert guidance and support throughout your journey.

As a mother grounded in IFS I have been able to nurture the many parts of myself more quickly. From knowing my parts before having children and building trust inside I can connect deeply in a matter of minutes, I want to help you find this connection, too. I have noticed the more recent postpartum I have been, the more blended with parts I was and it was harder to connect with parts on my own. I believe mothers need more support and connection in early postpartum to have a bit more than just surviving happening. I believe that nurturing the mothers soul is essential to raising children. I believe the more cared for and connected a mother is to herself and others the more connected she will be to the needs of her children. I could help you, mama, connect back to yourself and feel your vitality for life once again. I could help hold you through the wild experience of feelings. I could help you understand yourself and your children better. I’m here for you, mama, whenever you are ready.
